Email health checks for SPF, DKIM and DMARC

What Pingee checks

• MX: the records that tell the world where to deliver your email. Missing or broken MX records mean email may bounce.
• SPF: which servers may send email for your domain. Pingee checks there is one valid record and counts its DNS lookups.
• DKIM: the signature that proves a message was not altered. Pingee looks for DKIM records at common selector names, so it can confirm one exists but cannot find every possible selector.
• DMARC: the policy that tells receivers what to do with email that fails SPF and DKIM.

On the Plus and Business plans Pingee also checks MTA-STS, TLS reporting, mail-server reverse DNS and SMTP connectivity, nameservers, DNSSEC, CAA records, mail-server and domain blacklists, and domain expiry.

Example finding

Your DMARC policy needs attention. “Your domain is not asking mail servers to reject spoofed emails. Start with p=none and reports, then move to quarantine or reject.”

What this does and doesn’t prove

• These are DNS and policy checks. A clean result means your records look correct. It does not prove that every email you send is delivered or avoids spam folders.
• Findings marked Advice are suggestions, not faults, and never trigger an alert.
• Some checks (for example the mail-server connection test) are not possible if a network blocks the connection, and are then shown as “Not determined”.

Which plan?

Email and DNS health checks are part of Plus (£15 a month) and Business (£25 a month). The free website checker includes a basic one-off look at your email records.

Frequently asked questions

How often are the email checks run?

Once a day, and you are alerted only when something is genuinely wrong.

Can Pingee fix my records?

No. Pingee tells you what it found and what to do. The changes are made at your DNS provider or by your email provider.
